Did You Know?

Saskatchewan is Canada's sunniest province, averaging from 2,000 to 2,500 hours of sunshine annually.

Regional and Integrated Services Branch has four interrelated units - Regional Services which includes three Regional Offices; the Human Services which supports the Human Services Integration Forum (HSIF) and ten Regional Intersectoral Committees (RICs); and Independent Schools and Home-based Education (ISHBE); and School Administration and Provincial Teacher Bargaining unit.

Regional Services provides insight into the regional context on a wide range of issues, programs and policy for the department and has core responsibilities in the areas of early learning and child care, independent schools and home-based education, First Nations and Métis education, the Continuous Improvement Framework, curriculum, children's services and preK-12 policy and financial issues.

Human Services oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of intersectoral initiatives through its work with the Human Services Integration Forum (HSIF) which advances intersectoral initiatives among the human service departments (Education; Justice and Attorney General; Health; Social Services; First Nations and Métis Relations; Tourism, Parks, Culture, and Sport; and Corrections, Public Safety and Policing).  The branch also works with the ten Regional Intersectoral Committees (RICs) who ensure collaborative program and service delivery for vulnerable populations in their community.

The Independent Schools and Home-based Education Unit provides leadership regarding the development and implementation of legislation and policies with respect to independent schools and home-based education.  The Unit also registers, inspects and supervises independent schools, monitors the registration of home-based education programs with school divisions, and ensures compliance with the legal requirements for the operation of independent schools and home-based education programs.

School Administration and Provincial Teacher Bargaining Unit provides liaison, consultation, policy research and advice on the application of legislation and regulations pertinent to school administration including alternative school day/school year arrangements, record retention and disposal, school review processes, and other topics that arise.  The Unit provides support to the provincial teacher bargaining team and to the application of provincial teachers’ collective agreement.
