NOTIFICATION AND PROCESSING

We will acknowledge, by letter, receipt of your application.  Your application will then be put into date order and you will be advised of any additional documents or information that must be submitted.  Applications are not evaluated until all required documents are received.  

When your file is complete, it is put into date order for evaluation.  

Please allow a minimum of 4 months from receipt of the above letter for evaluation of credentials for applicants who completed their initial teacher preparation outside Canada and the United States and a minimum of 3 months for applicants who completed their initial preparation within Canada and the United States before contacting our office regarding the status of you application.   

The following documents must be submitted before eligibility for a teaching certificate will be determined:

  • Original application form - completed in full and signed.
  • Official transcripts for all post-secondary education (from each university, college, vocational/technical institution attended) listing all classes completed. Transcripts must be sent directly to Teacher Services from the institute.
    • If your degree has not yet been conferred but classes completed, you should contact the College/Faculty of Education for a letter of confirmation to be forwarded directly to Teacher Services. This letter must confirm that you have met the requirements for your degree and inform us when you will convocate.
  • Official high school transcript (if high school standing is not confirmed on your university transcript, or was completed outside Saskatchewan). Transcripts for Saskatchewan Grade 12 graduates are not required.
  • Verified* copy of your Canadian Social Insurance Number (i.e. your card or a letter from a the Federal Government such as a GST refund, an Income Tax Notice of Assessment or a Child Tax Credit).
  • Verified* copy of your birth certificate (proof of your name at birth and date of birth).
  • Verified* copy of your marriage certificate/name change certificate if the name on your birth certificate differs from the one you now use.
  • $75 certification fee - non-refundable (cheque or money order payable in Canadian funds to the Minister of Finance, or VISA - see Credit Card Service Request Form on our website).
  • Other information or documents may be requested if necessary.

 

For professional teacher education completed outside Saskatchewan, the following documents must also be submitted:

  • Verified* copy of your teacher's certificate or proof of eligibility to hold a teaching certificate in the jurisdiction where teacher education was obtained.
  • $75 evaluation fee (cheque or money order payable in Canadian funds to the Minister of Finance; or VISA - see Credit Card Service Request Form on our website).
  • Official Statement of Professional Standing from the last jurisdiction in which you were authorized to teach. This statement must be sent directly to Teacher Services from the education authority.

If you are eligible for a provisional certificate, you will receive a letter of confirmation. On the basis of this letter, you may seek employment as a teacher in Saskatchewan. Your teaching certificate will be issued when we receive confirmation of employment as a teacher or substitute teacher from a Saskatchewan school division/employer.

*Verified means: a photocopy signed by a guarantor who can attest that:  "This is a true copy of the original document." The guarantor must provide his/her full name, contact information and signature.  Faxed documentation will not be accepted.  See the document below for a complete list of authorized guarantors.   If you wish to forward original documents, they will be returned to you.

Note: All cheques dishonoured by the payer's financial institution will be assessed a $10 administration fee. Refunds will not be issued for less than $10 unless requested.
