Did You Know?

Saskatchewan is Canada's sunniest province, averaging from 2,000 to 2,500 hours of sunshine annually.

School boards in Saskatchewan determine the salary classification of teachers in their employ. Based on certification and academic qualifications, teachers are classified in accordance with the Teacher Certification and Classification Regulations.

The Provincial Salary Scale, as outlined in the Provincial Collective Bargaining Agreement, is linked to the Regulations.

It is the responsibility of the teacher to present all documentation regarding classification or reclassification to employing boards of education within 120 days after the day upon which the requirements have been met.

 In August 2003 , the Minister of Education made amendments to The Teacher Certification and Classification Regulations, 2002 to create a certificate that will enable teachers to upgrade their classification and ensure there are teachers available to teach subjects in particular demand throughout the province. It is called the Additional Qualification Certificate (AQC).

The Additional Qualification Certificate will be issued to teachers who complete one of the following:

  • a certificate program that has been approved by the Minister of Education;
  • an integrated program that has been approved by the Minister of Education;
  • a technical or vocational program that is recognized by the Minister of Education for the purposes of the Additional Qualification Certificate; or
  • a Journeyperson Certificate in an area that relates to courses of study used in Saskatchewan schools.
